Overview of the PM Internship Scheme 2026-

The Prime Minister or PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) is an initiative launched under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs under the direction of PM Narendra Modi that aims to provide a real-world work culture experience to youth to prepare them for future careers. A monthly stipend of Rs. 9000 will be given to the enrolled candidates who are eligible under this scheme. The duration of this Internship is 6 or 9 months in different domains to work with more than 500 global companies for the upcoming 5 years.

• More than 28,000 internships to register in 21 different sectors.
• This is a PAN India internship, not limited to any state, district or region; it mainly depends upon the company location.
• The application window is open for mostly internships; however, the deadline for these is 16 April 2026, and others are rolling up to December 2026.
• Renowned companies recruited in this scheme are: TCS, Infosys, Reliance, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, HDFC, ICICI, Muthoot Finance, Larsen and Tourbo, Aditya Birla, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Wipro and more.

Traces of the PM Internship Scheme-

The PM Internship Scheme 2026 is traced to India’s skill development schemes and initiatives that led to its emergence. Implementation programmes such as the Skill India Mission and the National Apprenticeship Programme Scheme (NAPS) 2015 by the government of India, to promote job-ready skills as an essential step for hands-on experience for candidates applying to top companies, as the students lack industrial knowledge. Later, various apprenticeships and trainings were introduced, combining academics with industrial learning required for employment.

Internship-based educational models were introduced were practical skills were given more importance than bookish knowledge for MNCs. PM Intership Scheme has its roots in 2024 as a flagship opportunity of Rs. 2000 crore announced in the Union Budget 2024-2025 by Nirmala Sitharaman under Viksit Bharat @2047 of PM Modi to make India a Skill Capital of the World. Offering more than 1.25 lakh internships in its pilot phase, the PMIS 2026 has evolved independently under “Skilled and Employable Bharat” to provide apprenticeships, mainly internships in 24 sectors, including oil and gas, energy, FMCG, IT, banking, automotive, etc.

What is the Benefit of PMIS 2026?

The PM Internship Scheme is not a job opportunity; however, it is a portal that gives students a learning platform by reputed companies of the country to train and develop skills for career growth. Eligibility to Apply for PM Internship Scheme 2026-

• Age requirement to enrol in the PMIS: 18 to 25 years old
• Nationality must be Indian.
• Distant online learners can enrol in this scheme.
• Educational Background of the Applicant must have:
  • Passed 10th or 12th class in recognised boards; marksheets are required for document verification.
  • ITI and polytechnic students who have completed their studies.
  • UG courses such as BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BPharma, or BE/BTech
  • PG courses such as MA, MSc, MCom, MCA, or MTech
  • The family income of the applicant must be below 8 lakh per year.

Non-Eligible Applicants for the PMIS Scheme:

• The candidate must not be a full-time employee or studying full-time.
• Candidates who hold post-graduate or professional degrees like MBA, BDS, MBBS, MD, MS, CA, CMA, CS, MBA (or equivalent), MPhil, PhD, etc.
• Must not have studied from the top institutions of India like IIM, IIT, IISER, IIIT, National Law Universities, NIDs, or IISc, etc.
• Applicant whose family income is above 8 lakh per year.

After you have registered for the PM Internship Scheme 2026 according to your eligibility, the companies will shortlist the candidates and issue a list of selected students who are eligible for the intern programme.

Procedure to Apply for PMIS 2026-

Below are the steps-by-step process to apply for the PMIS 2026 programme. By following these easy steps, you can get enrolled for the scheme:-

1. Apply for Registration (Online):
   • Visit the PMIS Official Site to register for the PM Internship Scheme 2026. No fees are charged in the registration process (everything is online).
2. Tap on the Login/Register tab and then click on “New User? Register Now”.
3. You have to enter your mobile number, which is linked to your Aadhar card, and then you will receive an OTP.
4. After you enter your OTP, create your new password.
5. KYC Completion: Next, you have to visit the My Profile tab.
6. Verify your KYC by completing it with Aadhar e-KYC or just link your digilocker by adding credentials.
7. Apply for the PM Internships 2026: Firstly, click on the candidate dashboard button.
8. Drop-down fields will appear in which you have to select the options, such as State, District, Sector, and Field. 
9. The internship list, according to your selected options, will appear. You can read about them by hitting the view details option.
10. Select the internship of your choice and click on Apply Now. 
11. Follow the procedures as described to complete your candidature for the internship and look for the status notifications on your internship application.
12. The acceptance or rejection of the internship on PMIS internship must be initiated within the given time frame by the companies or courses.

Documents Required:

• Aadhar card for KYC verification, which is linked to a bank.
• Educational certificates or mark sheets of the candidate. For example, 10th or 12th marksheet, ITI, college degrees, diploma certificate or semester mark sheet, if you are in the final year.
• For age proof, a birth certificate or a 10th certificate is required.
• For stipend disbursement, bank account details are required.
• Latest passport-size photograph.
• The documents must be in JPG or PNG format for online upload, or companies may ask for further information.
