Key Features of NEP 2020 You Should Know-

UG degrees have now been trimmed down to 3 or 4 years, along with multiple exit and entry options:

• 1 year → Certificate

• 3 years → Bachelor’s Degree

• An optional research-oriented fourth-year

Since these have professional licensing requirements, some courses are not susceptible to structural changes under NEP:

• MBBS: 5.5 Years
• BDS: 5 Years
• BAMS/ BHMS/ BUMS: 5.5 years each 
• B. Arch.: 5 years (as per the Council of Architecture)
• B. Pharm: 4 Years 
• LLB / BA-LLB: 3 or 5 Years (as the case may be)

Pilot Training: In these matters, the durations are very much set by the courses and are never standard.

These are still full-time professional programmes with fixed curricula and no early exit options.

Specialised Science & Applied Fields-

Certain specialised sciences & applied fields are emerging in popularity in terms of NEP; namely, B.Sc. programs in Biotechnology/Genetics/Forensic Science 

• Environmental Science 
• Nautical Science 
• Microbiology 

These are 3-4-year undergraduate courses involving laboratories, research, and projects about real life. Depending on their research interests, students may also choose to take the fourth year, leading to a research-based degree.

Undergraduate Programs in Business & Media-

BMS, BBS, BBA

An integrated BBA and MBA is a five-year course that combines an undergraduate course and postgraduate studies. 

Journalism and Mass Communication is a bachelor’s program that trains you in media writing, news anchoring, public relations, and more.

• Bachelor of Fine Arts: Visual arts, animation, and sculpture
• BA in Foreign Languages: German, French, Japanese, etc.

As prescribed in the NEP, students with majors in fields other than Law may take such elective courses as Finance, Coding, or Literature.

Education-Oriented Courses-

• B.EL.ED. (Bachelor of Elementary Education) Duration: Four years Integrated B.Sc/. B.A.+ B.Ed.
• Course: Four Years
• The courses are reformed under NEP 2020 to concentrate on pedagogy, NEP-aligned curriculum, and practical engagement in schools.
• Design, Fashion, Architecture
• B.Design / BFD (Fashion Designing) – 3–4 years
• Interior Design/ Animation/ Game Design – Offered as a Degree and Diploma
• As per its norm, the Bachelor of Architecture is a 5-year course. All courses are practically oriented, and most colleges tend to introduce project work or internships as early as the second year of study. 

Vocational and Diploma Degrees (6 Months to 2 Years)-

• There is no compulsory 3-4 year course available to everyone. The NEP 2020 advocates skill-oriented learning with:
• Diploma Degrees: Hospitality, Travel and Multimedia, Event Management, Photography, Yoga, etc. 
• 2-Year Full-Time Diploma in Elementary Education
• Engineering Diplomas – Usually 3 years, such as Civil engineering, Computer engineering, Mechanical engineering, etc.

Most of these programs include direct internships embedded into the delivery, with the benefit that they can stack towards a full degree under ABC.

Online Money-Making and Digital Courses-

The options become tenable with NEP’s digital infrastructure and NDU:

• Digital marketing.
• Content creator  (Blogging/YouTube)
• Freelancer(Writing, Design, or Code).
• Stock market trading.
• Web/App development.
• Graphic design & UI/UX. 
• Basics of Cryptocurrency and Blockchain.

These are short courses with certification, which can later be coupled with degrees via credit transfer.
